OUR HISTORY

In the spring of 2015, 11 friends got together and decided to form a new men’s a cappella harmony organization. Most of us had years of experience singing with various groups, barbershop and otherwise. We wanted our new group to be different. After copious discussion and libation, we reached a few conclusions.

Founders
Everyone at the table that night was assigned the title of founder. A founder has the lifelong responsibility for looking out for the best interest of our new singing organization and to protect the vision and mission set out that night. In fact, the names of the founders can be found in our bylaws filed with the State of Arizona.

Nicknames
We decided that everyone that was part of this new group must have a nickname. This idea stuck to the extent that sometimes we forget each other’s real names – no kidding.

Owners
We also determined that participation in the Syndicate would be more than a basic membership. Members come and go, and we knew that the 80/20 rule was applicable to most organizations. Instead, we felt it important to consider ourselves owners. Everyone’s oar should be in the water, and we must utilize the skills of each and every owner to move the ship forward.

Vision and Mission Matters
We all knew that we were striking out on a new musical journey, and we all wanted it to really matter. We knew that the more aligned we were, the more we could accomplish. We were very methodical about defining our Vision and Mission and recognized that we needed everyone on board with it before we could proceed. We were fortunate that one or our original Owners is a professional facilitator who helped us create our Vision … Thanks Moose!

Our Mission
A Cappella Syndicate believes that music is a universal language that brings people together from all walks of life. Our mission is to promote a cappella harmony in our community and beyond through performance, education, and outreach, with special emphasis on youth.

The Name
What a task it was to corral all these guys to come up with a name! It took 3 votes to finally settle on A Cappella Syndicate
